Mystery meets farce in the first of the Harlow Brothers mysteries.
When Edward Harlow, a former football player turned etiquette author, arrives at Inglenook Resort to give a lecture about all things genteel, the discovery of a corpse in the room next door sends his ordered world spinning out of control. His secretary (and brother) knows the danger of an impolite Edward and scrambles to put things right.
Everybody loves Aunt Civility's etiquette books. However, no one but her secretary, Nicholas Harlow, has ever met the author. That's because the genteel, grandmotherly Aunt Civility is in reality his older brother, Edward, a short-tempered former linebacker who charms the author’s public as her official representative.
One such event is scheduled to take place at the isolated Inglenook Resort, but the guests are snowed in before the attendees arrive. Then a dead body turns up in the room next door, and Edward is in danger of losing his manners. Nicholas will do whatever it takes to keep “Aunt Civility” in check, but as the body count rises, so do his chances of becoming the next victim.
A new fiancé, an old boyfriend, and a murder that will change everything.
Frankie Chandler’s engagement to Detective Martin Bowers isn’t all kisses and rainbows. How is the pet psychic, a woman who has trouble deciding what’s for dinner, supposed to choose bridesmaid dresses, a reception menu, and a ring she’ll wear for the rest of her life? Just when she’s gearing up for a panic attack, her ex-boyfriend, Jeffrey Ross, strolls back into her life.
When Frankie discovers Jeff’s latest love interest face down in a Jacuzzi, the only witness to the crime is a cranky Fiji Crested iguana who refuses to tell what he knows. Then Frankie’s involuntary entanglement in the investigation threatens to ruin Bowers’ chances for promotion. After calling an uneasy truce with Jeff, the two form a crime-solving team that will either reveal the murderer or bring an end to everything she holds dear, including her own life.
